7. Suggestions from students on their ideas for integrating technology into their learning. Tumblr blogs, web cams with peers for study groups, online discussions, online calendars with due date reminders on phone, virtual labs.
8. What tools that are not presently available, would help to achieve district objectives? The district is working on updating our capacity for wireless connection. Our laptop computers seem to be in stages of disrepair after one year of use, and the online demands continue to grow.
My lesson in response to the technology inventory
I was able to take a close reading assignment and incorporate it into a globalized lesson plan by using the UN Cyber School Bus. My students needed to complete a non-fiction reading, I chose the Introduction to Poverty unit in the Cyber School Bus. The students and I used the online unit for reading and inquiry. The students participated in the activity that accompanied the reading, dividing into groups that represented the income levels in the world. They read and engaged in small and whole group discussions.
I feel that creating and implementing the change in the lesson created a more engaging lesson or the students. The students not only read non-fiction for understanding, but they became engaged in conversation about wealth and poverty and about living conditions around the world. The groups of students represented the populations of the world, of which 15% earn of $9000.00 a year, 30% earn from $800 – 8999.00 per year, and 55% earn $ 100 - $799 per year. The students discussed how this compared to their family incomes. They were shocked at what people did not have around the globe. I learned that students are interested in global issues. I also learned that internet resources can be easily aligned to state and national standards
